Route: Ahmedabad, Adalaj, Gandhinagar.

Gandhinagar is Gujarat’s capital and the shorter of our two planned-city runs — thirty kilometres from Ahmedabad, about forty-five minutes. It was laid out in the 1960s on a grid of numbered sectors, which makes it unusually easy to navigate and unusually quiet for a state capital.

Most bookings here are practical: the Secretariat and Vidhan Sabha, GIFT City, or a hospital appointment. The rest are for Akshardham, and for the Adalaj Stepwell, which sits almost exactly on the road between the two cities and is worth the twenty-minute stop even if it is not why you set out.

What to see on the Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar route

  1. 01

    Akshardham Temple

The largest temple in Gujarat, set in landscaped grounds. Allow two hours and expect airport-style security.

  2. 02

    Adalaj Stepwell

Five storeys cut down into the ground, built in 1498, and directly on your route. Twenty minutes and the best thing on this road.

  3. 03

    GIFT City

India’s first operational smart city and international finance centre, on the Sabarmati just outside town.

  4. 04

    Indroda Nature Park

A dinosaur fossil park — the second-largest hatchery of its kind in the world, and a genuine surprise.

  5. 05

    Sarita Udyan

Riverside gardens on the Sabarmati, quiet and good for an hour between appointments.

Good to know

  • Akshardham allows no phones, cameras or bags inside; the cloakroom queue adds time. Leave them in the car.
  • Adalaj costs nothing extra on this route — just tell the driver before you set off.
  • Sector addresses are precise; give the sector number and you will be dropped at the door.
  • For a day of appointments across sectors, keep the car rather than booking each leg.

FAQ

Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar — frequently asked questions

What is the Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar cab fare?

From ₹999 one-way in a sedan and ₹1,499 in an Ertiga, including fuel, driver allowance and taxes. Tolls and parking at actuals. Hourly hire for a day of appointments is quoted on request.

How long does it take to reach Gandhinagar from Ahmedabad?

About forty-five minutes for 30 km. Allow a little longer in the morning peak on the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar highway.

Can we stop at Adalaj Stepwell on the way?

Yes, and you should — it is essentially on the route and adds nothing to the fare. Mention it when booking so the driver plans for the stop.

Do you cover Akshardham and GIFT City?

Both, along with the Secretariat, Vidhan Sabha and the sector addresses. If you need several stops in one day, ask for the car to stay with you rather than booking each leg separately.
