Route: Gandhidham, Samakhiali, Morbi, Rajkot.

Gandhidham to Rajkot is 190 km and about four hours, on the same NH-27 as the Bhuj run but starting 45 km nearer. Four-lane the whole way and genuinely quick once you are clear of the town.

This is a working road. Gandhidham exists because of Deendayal Port, so the people in the car are usually port business, cargo agents or engineers, with a train or a flight to make at the Rajkot end.

What to see on the Gandhidham to Rajkot route

  1. 01

    Out of Gandhidham

Adipur and the port roads come first and they are the slowest few kilometres of the trip. Allow for them at the start, not the finish.

  2. 02

    Samakhiali

Forty-five minutes in, where the Bhuj road joins this one. From there it is a single highway to Rajkot.

  3. 03

    Morbi

The ceramic town, an hour short of Rajkot, and a convenient place to split a business trip into two halves.

  4. 04

    Tankara

Between Morbi and Rajkot: the birthplace, in 1824, of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, who founded the Arya Samaj.

  5. 05

    At the Rajkot end

The station is central; Hirasar International is 35 km beyond it, making the airport about four and three quarter hours from Gandhidham.

Good to know

  • We drop and collect at the port gate. Deendayal is a restricted area and vehicle entry needs a pass arranged in advance by the company you are visiting.
  • For a morning meeting in Rajkot, leaving Gandhidham by six makes it comfortable. The port roads are at their worst between eight and ten.
  • Four hours each way is a long day return but a common one. Say whether the car is waiting so it is priced as a single booking.
  • Bhuj is about 45 minutes the other way, so both can share one booking if you are seeing the two of them.
