Route: Jamnagar, Dhrol, Rajkot.
Ninety kilometres and two hours, straight down NH-27 through Dhrol. It is the shortest run between two big Saurashtra cities and the one we are asked for most on a weekday morning.
The reason is work. Jamnagar makes brass parts for half the world and Rajkot makes machines and castings, so most of the traffic between them is somebody with an appointment. The rest are heading for Rajkot's airport, which has considerably more flights than Jamnagar's.
What to see on the Jamnagar to Rajkot route
- 01
Dhrol
The one town on the road, roughly halfway, and a dependable tea stop.
- 02
The brass belt
Jamnagar's industrial estates line the Rajkot road, so a factory call on the way out of town costs almost nothing in time.
- 03
Two hours you can set a watch by
Dual carriageway for nearly all of it, with no ghats and no diversions. Of all our routes this is the one where the clock is most reliable.
- 04
Flying on from Hirasar
Rajkot's airport is 35 km past the city on the Ahmedabad side, which makes it about two and three quarter hours door to terminal from Jamnagar.
- 05
Lakhota, before you go
An hour spare at the Jamnagar end is well spent on the lake and the old palace sitting in the middle of it.
Good to know
- For a morning meeting in Rajkot, leave Jamnagar by seven. After eight the Rajkot end slows noticeably.
- Day returns are the usual booking here — the car waits and brings you back, which costs less than two one-way fares.
- Flying from Hirasar, add 45 minutes for the airport run and your check-in on top before fixing a pickup time.
- Dwarka is about two and a half hours the other way from Jamnagar, so the two fit into one booking if you are going on.

Constantly on this road. The driver waits while you do whatever you came for and takes you back, priced as one booking rather than two.
