The trip
Mount Abu is Rajasthan’s only hill station, sitting at about 1,220 metres in the Aravallis — and for most of Gujarat it is the nearest place that is genuinely cool in April. That alone fills it every summer.
The reason to go, though, is Dilwara. Five Jain temples built between the 11th and 13th centuries out of white marble carved so finely that parts of it are translucent. There is nothing else quite like them in India, and photographs are not allowed, which turns out to be the right decision.
From Rajkot it is roughly 470 km and eight hours, so four days is the sensible shape: a day up, two on the hill, and a day back with Ambaji on the way down.

Itinerary
Day by day
- 1
Day 1
Rajkot to Mount Abu
The long day — about 470 km and eight hours through Ahmedabad and Palanpur, then the climb from Abu Road up the ghat. Leave early. Arrive in the late afternoon, check in, and walk down to Nakki Lake as the temperature drops. Overnight at Mount Abu.

Day 2
Dilwara and the hill
Dilwara Temples in the afternoon, when they open to visitors — allow two hours and expect to leave phones and leather at the entrance. Morning for Guru Shikhar, the highest point in the Aravallis, and Achalgarh fort with its Achaleshwar Mahadev temple. Sunset Point in the evening if the crowds do not put you off. Overnight at Mount Abu.
- 3
Day 3
Around Mount Abu
A slower day — the Wildlife Sanctuary at Trevor’s Tank, Honeymoon Point, the Brahma Kumaris Peace Park, and the bazaar around Nakki Lake in the evening. Boating on the lake if the weather holds. Overnight at Mount Abu.

Day 4
Ambaji, then home
Down the ghat and on to Ambaji, about 45 km from Abu Road — one of the 51 Shakti Peeths and a natural stop on the way back. Then the run south to Rajkot, arriving in the evening.

- Dilwara opens to non-Jain visitors from around midday — mornings are for worship. Plan the day around it rather than turning up early.
- No photography inside Dilwara, and leather belts, bags and wallets must be left at the entrance.
- Mount Abu is full through May and June and over Diwali. Book hotels well ahead or travel outside those weeks.
- It genuinely gets cold from December to February. Carry warm clothes even coming from Gujarat.
- The Abu Road ghat has a vehicle entry toll for the hill station, which is included in what we quote.
FAQ
Common questions
How much is the Mount Abu tour package from Rajkot?
From ₹17,000 for four days in a sedan and ₹36,000 in a tempo traveller. That covers the vehicle, driver, fuel, tolls, the Rajasthan permit and taxes for the whole trip. Hotels and meals are arranged by you.
How long is the drive from Rajkot to Mount Abu?
About eight hours for roughly 470 km, through Ahmedabad and Palanpur, with the ghat climb from Abu Road at the end. It is a full day, which is why the itinerary gives it one.
When is the best time to visit Mount Abu?
For weather, October to March — cool and clear, and genuinely cold in December and January. April to June is the busiest because the rest of Gujarat is escaping the heat, so it is pleasant but crowded and hotels cost more.
Is the Rajasthan interstate permit included?
Yes. The fare covers the permit and taxes, so there is nothing to settle at the border. The hill station vehicle toll at Abu Road is included too.
