The trip
Udaipur is five hours from Ahmedabad and looks like nothing in Gujarat. The Mewar rulers dug a chain of artificial lakes in the 1500s and built the city around them, and the result is a place that earns the comparisons it gets.
Two days is a weekend, and it is how most people do this — up on Saturday morning, back on Sunday evening. It is enough for the City Palace, a sunset on Lake Pichola and the main temples and gardens, which is the core of the city.
The drive itself is one of the better ones in the region: flat farmland to Himatnagar, then the Aravallis start and the road climbs through hill country past Shamlaji and across into Rajasthan at Dungarpur.

Itinerary
Day by day
- 1
Day 1
Ahmedabad to Udaipur, and Lake Pichola
Leave early for the 260 km run north on NH-48, stopping at the 11th-century Shamlaji temple roughly two hours in. Into Udaipur by early afternoon. The City Palace takes the rest of the day — 22 rulers added to it over four centuries — and the sunset boat on Lake Pichola out to Jag Mandir finishes it. Overnight in Udaipur.
- 2
Day 2
Udaipur, then home
Jagdish Temple first, then Saheliyon ki Bari and the Fateh Sagar lakefront. Up to Sajjangarh, the Monsoon Palace, for the view across the whole valley before lunch. On the road south by mid-afternoon, back in Ahmedabad in the evening.
What's included
- Air-conditioned vehicle with a driver for both days
- Fuel, driver allowance, driver’s food and accommodation
- All road tolls, the Rajasthan interstate permit, taxes and parking
- Pickup and drop at your home address
What's not
- Your hotel and meals
- City Palace entry and the Lake Pichola boat fare
- Sajjangarh entry and the sanctuary vehicle charge
- Guide fees, where you choose to hire one
Before you go
- Buy the Pichola sunset boat ticket at the City Palace jetty earlier in the day. It sells out in season.
- Sajjangarh sits inside a wildlife sanctuary and private cars are stopped at the gate — a shared jeep runs from there to the top.
- Two days is tight. A third turns it from a dash into a proper trip, and lets you add Eklingji and Nathdwara.
- October to March is the season. Avoid May and June, when it is very hot and the lakes drop.
- Weekend hotel prices in Udaipur are markedly higher than midweek ones.
FAQ
Common questions
How much is the Udaipur tour package from Ahmedabad?
From ₹13,000 for two days in an Innova Crysta and ₹21,000 in a 13-seater Force Urbania. That covers the vehicle, driver, fuel, tolls, the Rajasthan permit and taxes. Your hotel, meals and entry tickets are separate.
Is two days enough for Udaipur?
It covers the City Palace, Lake Pichola, the main temples and Sajjangarh, which is the heart of the city. A third day lets you add Eklingji, Nathdwara or Kumbhalgarh without rushing, and we are happy to quote it.
Can the tour start from Rajkot instead?
Yes, though it adds roughly 215 km each way and we would suggest three days rather than two if you are starting from there. Tell us where you are travelling from and we will quote it properly.
Is the Rajasthan permit included in the price?
Yes — the permit and interstate taxes are part of the fare, so nothing is collected at the border.
