The trip

Somnath and Dwarka are the two reasons most people travel through Saurashtra. Somnath is the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas and has been destroyed and rebuilt more times than any temple in India. Dwarka is one of the four Char Dham, and by tradition Krishna’s own city — much of which is said to lie under the sea just off the coast.

They are 235 km apart along a coast road that almost nobody regrets taking. Three days is the shape this trip naturally falls into: a night at each, and the drive between them broken at Porbandar, where Gandhi was born.

The car and driver stay with you throughout. That matters more here than on an ordinary trip, because both towns spread out — Bet Dwarka is a boat ride and a drive from Dwarka town, and Nageshwar is another twenty minutes beyond that.

Itinerary

Day by day

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Rajkot to Somnath

Leave Rajkot after breakfast for the 185 km run south through Gondal, Jetpur and Junagadh — about three and a half hours. Check in, then walk to the temple for the evening aarti and the sound-and-light show on the sea wall afterwards. Bhalka Tirth and the Triveni Sangam are both a few minutes away if there is time before dark.

  2. 2

    Day 2

Somnath to Dwarka, along the coast

Morning darshan at Somnath, then the coast road north — 235 km with the Arabian Sea on your left most of the way. We stop at Porbandar around midday for Kirti Mandir, built beside the house where Gandhi was born, and the Sudama Temple a few minutes from it. Into Dwarka by late afternoon, in time for the evening aarti at Dwarkadhish.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Dwarka, then home

Early darshan at Dwarkadhish before the queues build, then the boat across to Bet Dwarka, and Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and the Rukmini Devi temple on the way back. Leave by early afternoon for the 230 km return to Rajkot, arriving in the evening.

What's included

  • Air-conditioned vehicle with a driver for all three days
  • Fuel, driver allowance, driver’s food and accommodation
  • All road tolls, state taxes and parking
  • Pickup and drop at your home address

What's not

  • Your hotels and meals
  • Temple donations, and the boat fare to Bet Dwarka
  • Guide fees, where you choose to hire one
  • Anything not listed as included

Before you go

  • Dwarkadhish and Somnath both require phones and bags to be left outside. There are lockers, but leaving them in the car is quicker.
  • Go to Bet Dwarka early. The boats fill up and the crossing gets rough by mid-afternoon.
  • October to March is the comfortable window. Janmashtami at Dwarka is extraordinary but extremely crowded — book weeks ahead.
  • Dress modestly for both temples; shoulders and knees covered avoids any argument at the gate.
  • Ask for the coast road on day two rather than the inland route. It is barely longer and far better.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does the Somnath Dwarka tour package cost?

From ₹10,800 for three days in a sedan from Rajkot, ₹12,600 in an Ertiga, and ₹28,000 for a 13-seater Force Urbania from Ahmedabad. That covers the vehicle, driver, fuel, tolls and taxes for the whole trip. Hotels and meals are yours to arrange.

Is three days enough for both temples?

It is the standard length and it works, with a night at each town. If you want to add Porbandar properly, or Gir on the way back, a fourth day makes the whole thing considerably more relaxed — tell us and we will quote it.

Can the tour start from Ahmedabad instead of Rajkot?

Yes. The Urbania option runs from Ahmedabad, and we can quote any of the vehicles from there — it adds roughly 215 km to the first day. Say where you are starting when you book.

Are hotels included in the package?

No. The price covers the vehicle and driver for the full three days, including the driver’s own food and accommodation. We are happy to suggest places at both towns across a range of budgets, but you book and pay for them directly.

Do we need to book Bet Dwarka separately?

The boat is paid at the jetty and costs very little. The driver will take you there and wait — it is about 30 km from Dwarka town, so it is not somewhere you would reach on your own.
