Route: Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat.
Surat cuts and polishes the large majority of the world’s diamonds and weaves a great deal of its synthetic fabric, and almost everything about the city follows from those two facts. It is fast, commercial and much newer-feeling than its age suggests — it was a major port when the East India Company arrived in 1612.
From Rajkot it is 420 km and about seven hours, running through Ahmedabad and Vadodara before crossing the Narmada at Bharuch. Nearly all of it is expressway or four-lane highway, which is what makes a drive of that length reasonable rather than gruelling.
What to see on the Rajkot to Surat route
- 01
The diamond and textile markets
Most travel on this road is trade. Mahidharpura for diamonds, the Ring Road markets for fabric.
- 02
Dumas Beach
Black sand on the Arabian Sea, about 20 km from the centre, and the standard evening outing.
- 03
Surat Castle
A 16th-century fort on the Tapi, restored a few years ago after a long spell of neglect.
- 04
Dutch and Armenian cemeteries
Mausoleums left by the traders who got here before the British. Quiet, strange and quite unlike anything else in Gujarat.
- 05
Bharuch, on the way
The Narmada crossing is the natural break point — roughly an hour short of Surat.
Good to know
- Seven hours is a long day. Starting at 6 am gets you there with the afternoon intact.
- For a family or a business group, the Ertiga or an Innova is worth the difference on a drive this long.
- The diamond markets keep their own hours and close for long midday breaks — confirm before you plan around them.
- Going on to Mumbai? Surat is roughly the halfway point and a sensible overnight stop.
FAQ
Rajkot to Surat — frequently asked questions
What is the Rajkot to Surat cab fare?
From ₹6,000 one-way in a sedan and ₹7,000 in an Ertiga, including fuel, driver allowance and taxes. Tolls and parking at actuals. Round trips and larger vehicles are quoted on request.
How long is the drive from Rajkot to Surat?
About seven hours for 420 km, via Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Bharuch. Almost all of it is expressway or four-lane highway.
Is a one-day return trip possible?
Fourteen hours of driving for a few hours in the city is not something we would suggest. Book an overnight and the same car and driver stay with you.
Can you continue to Mumbai from Surat?
Yes. Surat is roughly halfway, so a Rajkot to Mumbai trip broken with a night here is far more comfortable than the run in one go. We quote it as a single outstation booking.
