Route: Somnath, Veraval, Keshod, Junagadh, Jetpur, Gondal, Rajkot.
The drive back from Somnath is the quiet half of a pilgrimage. 185 km, about three and a half hours, and the road unwinds the way you came: Veraval, Keshod, then Junagadh and the long run up NH-27 through Jetpur and Gondal.
Most people booking it have a train or a flight at the other end, which makes the timing matter more than it did on the way down. Rajkot is where this corner of Gujarat connects to everywhere else, and it is where we are based, so the car is going home either way.
What to see on the Somnath to Rajkot route
- 01
Away after the morning aarti
The usual departure. Leave Somnath by nine and Rajkot comes comfortably before lunch, which suits an afternoon train.
- 02
Veraval, six kilometres on
The port town where most visitors actually sleep. If you have not seen the fishing harbour, this is the last chance at it.
- 03
Junagadh and Girnar
An hour and a half in, and the obvious place to break the journey. The ropeway has turned the summit into a morning rather than a whole day.
- 04
Gondal
Half an hour short of Rajkot: the Naulakha Palace, the royal garages, and the last proper tea stop before the city.
- 05
What you are catching
Rajkot Junction is in the middle of town, but Hirasar airport is about 35 km beyond it. Worth knowing before you fix a departure time.
Good to know
- Give us the train or flight time, not just a pickup time. We would rather work backwards from the thing you cannot miss.
- Leaving after the evening aarti puts you into Rajkot near midnight. We will do it, but a morning start is easier on everybody.
- Prasad, coconuts and a week of luggage add up. If you came down in a sedan and are going back with more, say so when you book.
- The Visavadar turn for Gir is on this road, so a safari on the way back is a genuine option rather than a detour.
FAQ
Somnath to Rajkot — frequently asked questions
What is the Somnath to Rajkot cab fare?
From ₹3,500 one-way in a sedan and ₹4,000 in an Ertiga, with fuel, driver allowance and taxes included; tolls and parking at actuals. The same figure applies in either direction.
How long does Somnath to Rajkot take?
About three and a half hours for 185 km, through Veraval, Keshod, Junagadh, Jetpur and Gondal. Add to that if you are stopping at Girnar.
Can you drop us at Rajkot airport or the station?
Both. Rajkot Junction is central; Hirasar International is about 35 km past the city on the Ahmedabad side, so say which one when you book and the timing is planned around your departure.
Can we add Gir on the way back?
It is often the best way to do it. Sasan Gir is about an hour and a half off this road, and booked as one journey it costs far less than coming back to Rajkot and driving out again.
